Photo a Week - Weather

This is the last photo a week in this years stock of photos.  The new round of photo's starts this week with us sitting in our back garden and snapping away, and posting our photo's every 2 weeks!  This week's photo a week was weather, and this is my contribution.

We went to LongLeat on Friday for their Halloween Fest and Fireworks.  We headed down to the field where we could view the fireworks, and this misty landscape was what met us when we entered the field.  The photo doesn't really do it justice, it was very striking!

Photo a Week - Flash

This week's photo a week is Flash!  We've had to use our flash to highlight something in the dark, or in another creative way!  Emily is poorly with a cold, so has had a bed on the floor of my living room this afternoon (even though she could lay on the sofa!), and seemed the perfect subject as my living room started to get dark!

Believe it or not my room was really dark, and I like the effect that the long flash exposure gave me.

Then I decided to hold still and take the photo properly!  My room really was that dark.

Next week the subject is Sport, so I may have to give this a miss.

Photo a Week - Abandoned

This week's Photo a Week is abandoned, and I knew exactly what my subject would be for this week, albeit a bit unusual.

I'm guessing this isn't an usual sight in households with Children, but the minute Emily comes into the house, she abandons her shoes and socks!!

I tried taking this photo from a bit of an usual angle on the floor!

A Photo a Week - Vehicles

This weeks subject was Vehicles, and whilst I like Cars, I just couldn't think of anything worse to take a photo of - a normal road car!!  Then inspiration struck me when we took Emily out for a bike ride!

I decided that a bike is a form of vehicle, as you use them to get from A to B!!

A nice close up of the bike pedal and Emily's shoe!

Emily dropped her bike on the floor, and I couldn't resist taking these photo's.  Not sure if you can see it here, but the background is nicely blurred.

You can see the background better in this photo!

I still have a family portrait to take (Emily is still spotty from her Chickenpox, so I  may leave this for a week) and this week's photo theme is abandon, and I know exactly what photo I'm going to take!

Photo a week.... Is delayed

Due to Craig being in Germany all this week and he only got back early this morning. Emily has also come down with Chickenpox tonight, although I will try to photograph this (horrible mum, I know).

I will post my family portrait and this weeks subject, vehicles, this coming weekend!!

Photo a Week - Documenting or Decay

This weeks topic for Photo a Week was abit tricky, but a chance statement from Emily gave me a subject!! Emily has to wear her hair up for school, so she wore it in a French Plait on Monday.  When I asked her on Tuesday how she wanted to wear her hair, I got a very matter of fact "mummy, plaits are for school, pony tails are for gym".  This got my mind ticking - could I persuade her to change her hairstyle during the week, so I documented how Emily wore her hair all week!

My photo's are very basic, as I had to take them really quickly each morning, more because I've not done a school run for about 4 - 5 years, so I'm not into a routine at all and was fighting all week to get out the door on time.  If you want to see how the photo's should have been taken, click onto Louise's blog here to see her gorgeous photo's!!

Here are my basic one's!

A Photo a Week

This week's Photo is lighting indoors!  I've taken a couple of pictures using natural light, but I'd like to take a photo later on of artificial light.  Emily has some great lights on her bedroom ceiling, so I'll go up and take a picture later on.  In the meantime, here are my natural light photo's......

The light was shining through my kitchen window and caught the newel post on my bottom set of stairs!

My front door has 9 small panes of obscured glass, and when the sun was shining through the door earlier on, I noticed the pattern on my freshly painted walls!

Photo a Week!

I have a couple of weeks of Photo a Week to catch up on.  The subject a couple of weeks ago was Street Photography, and last weeks was Wildlife!

First, Street Photography!  This is a street in St Ives, my favourite place in Cornwall!  I love the old world type streets that are all cobbled and narrow!

I know this isn't a street, but I couldn't resist photographing this quirky "street" of beach huts in Lyme Regis!!

Wildlife was the next subject, and I have quite a few photo's to choose from, as we visited Longleat, however, these are my favourite.  We went into the Butterfly Farm at Longleat and a couple of butterflies took a fancy to Craig......

It was a good job they put a large mirror at the exit to the butterfly farm, so we could check for any butterflies trying to make a break for it!!

Photo a Week

Continuing on with the Different Perspective theme.  Outside work a push bike was parked that had a lovely pink basket on the front, so I decided to take a photo from a different angle.

This was taken looking down into the basket.  I was hoping to see more of the wheel and light behind it.

This photo was taken looking down towards one of many underpasses in MK!  It just so happened that the lads walking under the underpass got there just as I was taking my photo.  I also like the fact that you get another different perspective when you look past the underpass and see MK train station behind.

Photo a Week

This week Karen set a different perspective photo.  I have to admit even after looking at Karen's blog, I was a bit perplexed as to what I could take a photo of!  I ended up taking a few photo's.

These are photo's taken at work.  I've just stood at the bottom of the object and looked up!  Simple, but effective.

I really liked this photo.  Again, I've stood at the bottom of the Parking sign and looked up, but I really like the fact that you can see the light on the sign shining through the leaves of the tree.

Photo a Week

I've missed a couple of the deadlines for the Photo a Week that Karen sets (see the Me, My Camera and Eye blog on my blog list), so I managed to take a 20 minute lunch break last week and take a Self Portrait and photo's from a different perspective.  I will post a different perspective over a few posts, as I took a few!!

I found it quite difficult taking a self portrait, as I took pictures of just my mouth or with the top of my head chopped off.  I did get some strange looks from people walking past work!  I bet they wondered why I was taking photo's of myself!

A gust of wind blew just as I was taking his photo, which sweeped my hair off my face.  Good timing from Mother Nature.

Photo a Week

Last week Karen set the subject of Animals and I didn't get to take them because of the heavy rain, so I've taken them this week along with the candid photo's which is this weeks subject.

So first to the animals!  I ran and grabbed my camera when I saw my cat, Herbie, rolled up in his favourite place to sleep.... my bath!

The photo's were a bit tricky to take, as I've only got spot lights in my bathroom and the light kept reflecting off the bath, leaving shadows.

With a little persuading my Border Terrier, Jack, laid down at the top of my stairs, then looked at me enough to say, what are you doing?!  This is my favourite photo!

Jack then sat up, and it looks just like he's saying cheese for the camera!!  He is such a character!

With both my children, it's hard to get natural shots of them, especially Emily, as she is a right little poser when my camera's out.  These photo's I took this afternoon when she was watching Baby Loony Tunes on the TV.  I sat on the rug in my living room pretending to look at pictures on my camera and managed to take these shots!

Engrossed in the TV and not what I was doing!

With her Dora backpack ready to go to see Auntie Clare and Uncle Giles!

Photo of the Week

I completed a camera course with my friend Louise, and Louise has been completing a photo a week for the last 18 months or so, the subject of which has been set by the very talented Karen.  Karen and Louise have very kindly let me join them in this weekly photograph session to help me use my camera!

So, after a late lunch, Craig (bless him!) drove around so that I could take some reflection photo's, which is this weeks subject.  Here are my first offerings for the weekly photo challenge!

Those of you that know Milton Keynes will know that as well as the Shopping Centre, some of the offices have mirrored glass that I took advantage of!

This is the bottom of the figure of eight that is below.

Not only did I photograph the reflection in the water, but also the trees in the mirrored glass of the building.

We were on our way home and we went over the river at Passenham!  I hope you can tell what is real foliage and what is reflection.
