You know me, I'm normally a cheerful person, and love to blog my cards and scrapbook pages! Well today I need to blog about a disaster that happened in my home this week, more to draw a line under the whole horrible incident than to vent my spleen, as what's happened has happened!
So what has happened, I hear you ask?!! I boosted my heating on Wednesday morning, for the pressure valve on my water tank, which is situated in James's bedroom on the middle floor of my townhouse, to fail and therefore make my water tank literally pop at the seams and drain a whole tank of water through the floor/ceiling into my hallway! Have a look....
This is my hallway after the water had stopped flooding through my hallway light fitting!! We were paddling under about a quarter of an inch of water, which the kids decided was fun to wade through!!
The water from the offending tank, that you can just see in the photo, ruined James's carpet. I'm not unhappy about that if I'm honest, as changing the bedroom carpets is one of those jobs that we need to do and just not got around to doing it yet. We now have to do this!
The water running down the walls in my hallway! This is the worst wall and the water took out the plug socket on this wall!! The coving is still wet and we have water marks all the way around the hall ceiling.
The water came through my Cloakroom ceiling too, but funnily enough didn't take out the light fitting! The ceiling is still intact, which I'm absolutely gobsmacked about!
Luckily we have British Gas cover on my boiler, which was condemned 18 months ago, the water tank, which is what exploded and all the pipes in my house. Craig, who was in London when all this happened, called British Gas at 7.40am, and they were outside my house by 9.00am. My new tank was also delivered on Friday and is due for installation tomorrow (Monday 22nd October), so I would highly recommend their cover. We also had a local electrician come out who lives in our village, and he was fantastic too! He checked all our sockets and light switches, and only condemned the hallway light fitting and plug socket.
I'm sure I'll laugh about this after Tuesday when the loss adjuster comes out to assess the damage, but here I am drawing my line under a horrible week, that not only saw Craig being away for a few nights, my water tank bursting and draining water all over my house, but Emily also went down on Thursday with a horrible Throat Infection!
The one good thing that happened was that James was my knight in shining armour! While I was panicking, not really knowing what to do, he calmly asked me to turn off the boiler and went to collect towels to mop up the floor! My friend, Gille, was also an angel for letting us all go to her house for a shower or bath! Thank you to both of you for your help, and things can only get better, as they say!
Thanks for stopping by and listening to me!
Sam
