Making your own Washi Tape.....

Washi Tape (also known as Tissue/Paper Tape) is so popular at the minute that all the big Manufacturers are bringing new designs out.  I love washi tape, but I hadn't thought of making my own until I saw an article in the latest issue of Scrap 365 by Emy Buxton.

This layout is of a butterfly at Longleat Safari Park that would not leave Craig alone!  Every time he brushed it gently off, it would fly in a circle and land back on Craig.  The papers from my June's My Creative Scrapbook kit were perfect!  I've used Prima Marketing Sun Kiss Collection paper - Kindred Spirit and Nectar Fields, and I've embellished it with a Pink Paislee Prairie Hill Shipping tag, Prima Flowers, Zva Creative gems, lace, Prima Marketing Chipboard and of course tape!

The tape I've used is Tim Holtz Tissue Tape, and as I have an obsession with Butterflies, I have the butterfly tissue tape!  This comes in 2 rolls for just under £10.  It is expensive, and I tend not to use a whole lot of it because of the cost.  But what if I could make my own like Emy did??  I know it won't be as professional, or as crisp, but I decided to give it a go!

This is a layout of Emily and her best friend, Daniel, when they went to "the big school" for a Sports Festival.  I've used My Minds Eye, On the Bright Side paper - Red Wood for the base, the yellow paper is Lilybee - Lemonade and the bingo cards started life as a sheet of paper, Simple Stories - Bingo Cards/stripe.  Have you spotted my attempt at wash tape?

You can just see my attempt at the bottom of this photo!  So how did I make my own washi tape?  Easy, a box of Surgical Micropore tape from Sainsburys (grand total of 50p a box), my journalling pens and my star stencil by Julie Fei-Fan Balzar for Crafters Workshop.  I was really pleased with the result and want to experiment more with my stamps and my Promarkers, so watch this space!

I hope this has inspired you to give making your own Washi tape a go!  Thanks for stopping by!
